Description

Teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Provides the skills needed to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and helps connect them to the appropriate care. Also includes information about mental health crises and risks for suicide. Separate courses are geared to different audiences: Mental Health First Aid is for adults, such as first responders, faith leaders, and caring adults; Youth Mental Health First Aid is for adults working with youth; and Teen Mental Health First Aid for high school students and youth-serving organizations.

NORTHWESTERN COUNSELING AND SUPPORT SERVICES

Northwestern Counseling and Support Services (NCSS) is the designated community mental health agency for Franklin and Grand Isle Counties under contract with Vermont Department of Mental Health to provide acute and long-term behavioral health care services to people with a wide range of emotional, behavioral and other mental health problems, substance abuse and/or developmental challenges. NCSS provides emergency and crisis intervention services for adults, children, adolescents and their families, as well as substance abuse treatment services and also operates a parent child center. They provide integrated health services as they embed clinicians in local primary care offices as well as within law enforcement.
