Description
Provides direct mental health and substance use disorder services via private, non-profit service providers, called Designated Agencies (DAs), located in each region. DAs offer prevention services to reduce risk factors and increase resiliency and protective factors for children and youth at risk for serious mental health needs, as well as their families. Also provides intervention and treatment services.

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is the state agency responsible for administering mental health programs for adults, children, and families. DMH assigns one Designated Agency in each geographic region of the state to be responsible for providing that area's direct services. DMH is responsible for supervising the operations of hospitals that provide inpatient care for individuals with mental illness, and manages the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital.
